Use of the following safety equipment is mandatory whenever a rider is engaged in riding his bicycle on an NBL-sanctioned track:
For the Rider
1. Use of a full face helmet is mandatory when practicing or racing
with a permanently attached chin strap at any NBL track. Helmets must be properly worn and secured.
2.
Long sleeved shirts are mandatory. Elbow pads are recommended for asphalt, concrete and wood courses but they are optional.
3. Full length pants are mandatory and should be made of heavy material (i.e. denim) or manufactured racing pants. Knee pads are recommended for asphalt, concrete and wood courses. Loose pant legs must be wrapped, tied or clipped, or duct-taped. (you
don't want to get them stuck in your chain!)
4. Shoes with soft soles to grip pedal.
5. Gloves are recommended, however they are not required.
6. You should have socks long enough to cover the ankle.
For the Bike
1. You need to have safety pads on the bike, such as padding around the goosenect (headset), top tube (between the seat and the handlebars, and on the handlebars (cross-bar).
2. Kickstands, reflectors, fenders, and chain guards should be removed (all sharp edges) .
3. The bicycle must have only a rear brake. Coaster brakes are not allowed. If front brakes are present, they must be disconnected.
4. All bikes must be in good working order, have no cracks in the frame, good tires, have no loose or missing spokes, and have a tight chain and a tight headset.
5. Bikes must have front and rear wheels of the same size: 20" is most common, but cruisers may have wheels of 24" or larger.
6. Seats must be firmly attached.
7. Handlebars must have tight grips and end plugs to cover the end of the bars.
8. Axles protruding more than ¼" beyond the axle nuts must be covered.
Inspection is MANDATORY before you allowed on the track
The track director or his designee has the responsibility to be sure that all bikes on the track are safe and the riders are wearing required the proper clothing. Riders who bring unsafe bikes or clothing will not be allowed to ride the track. You will get a sticker to put on your bike once you have passed inspection.
